Royal Ascot and Race Meets

Throughout the year various race meetings take place around the world providing milliners with the chance to draw on their creative talents and create amazing headwear for their clients.

Arguably Royal Ascot in Great Britain is one of the most watched with The Queen and senior members of the Royal family regularly attending this event in the middle of June.

Royal Ascot has become famed for the amazing millinery that race goers wear to attend. On 'Ladies Day' we see the most flamboyant hats with vivid colours and hats on a much larger scale.

In 2011 Royal Ascot changed their rules on dress codes, female race goers must now wear a hat at all times in the Royal Enclosure and the base of the hat must be at least 4 inches (10cm) in diameter. In the Grandstand Enclosure either a hat or fascinator must be worn. For full details on the appropriate dress please visit

At Rachel Black Millinery couture orders for Royal Ascot are taken from February to May. Prices start from £195. It is advisable to place orders early as this is a busy time for milliners.

All couture pieces can be modified and dyed to match specific outfits. Many of the hats on the Rachel Black on-line shop can also be made up in different colours if needed.
